We do not offer a GRP roofing system option as they are simply too temperamental to install. They need ideal temperatures to form a good chemical film and this is very difficult to achieve in the UK climate. If it’s too hot, it won’t cure, too cold, the same. If it rains whilst being installed, it needs to be stripped off and started again.

Training to become an applicator is often a 1 hour course in a builders merchants which almost anyone can pass. We sell a lot of GRP roofs that have gone wrong and in most cases, more cost effectively than the original price.

In truth, you should never design a roof to be completely flat unless you are designing it to be a Blue roof (A roof designed to flood and is used a lot in London to help with SUDS management). We have systems that can be laid at zero or even negative degrees but it is always better to put a small fall on a flat roof to aid drainage.

If you are looking to repair/replace the whole roof then you would be obliged to upgrade the insulation to the new building regulations currently 0.18 U-value (around 120mm of insulation needed) if you do a third of the roof repairs and no more, then you are not currently obliged to upgrade the insulation unless you want to.

This is dependent on the type of roof you have and its condition but in most cases, we can offer a solution outside of a full strip and recover. We would look to do a free survey with an infra-red camera to determine what options you have.

We can design a full cut-to-falls insulation system to remove all water from the roof however this can be quite costly and is not always required. Alternatively, and depending on the existing system in place, we can use a self-levelling preparation mortar to move the water in the right direction under one of our coating systems.
